Jean Baptiste Grenouille, our main character, was a strange boy. After he was born, he was taken to an orphanage The women in charge of his care mentioned that something was wrong with the little one, he had no smell and that terrified them
To get rid of the boy, they decided to give it to a leather tanner. He began to discover the great skill that he had with smell and memorizing smells.
He had a dream of one day being a famous perfumer
and when he had the opportunity to meet Guiseppe Baldini (a successful perfumer) he did not hesitate to show him his wonderful power with smell.
it is here that his first victim appears, a young redhead, her smell caught him completely and wishing to have it alone for him, Grenouille strangled her.
Baldini taking advantage of Grenouille, allows him to be his assistant. That's how the perfumer starts to make a lot of money.
Grenouille began to notice his intentions, decided to leave and resigned.
A possible inspiration for this book was the life of Manuel Romasanta, a murderer from Spain who killed children and women.
