Episodio 8: Warrant Uncle Toms Cabin año 1990 English Version
00:00:00 - HARD. ROCK. CLASSIC.
00:00:25 - Hello, greetings to all my friends in the world.
00:00:28 - Today we are going to have a band that was the forerunner of Hard Rock, Hair Metal or Glam Metal.
00:00:34 - Their name is Warrant and the chosen song is Uncle Tom's Cabin from 1990.
00:00:47 - This band together with Ratt, Duckin and Cinderella dominated the American scene in the decade 1980s and late 1990s.
00:00:58 - The song opens with a stunning acoustic blues intro that is arguably the best 33-second piece of music to be found on any warrant record. Interestingly, it was recorded neither by guitarist Joey Allen nor by Eric Turner. In fact, there is some speculation that the two did not play on the record at all. Instead, it was
00:01:22 - Lane's brother Eric Oswald who put it up.
00:01:27 - This is followed by a clean riff, backed with banjo and harmonica, which is a bit darker than anything found on the band's debut album, Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich.
00:01:40 - This song tells the story of a boy and his uncle fishing when they witness a bailiff and the deputy throw bodies into the water.
00:01:48 - Right before the dirty law enforcement officers show up, a thick distorted guitar riff kicks in. It's a simple powered chord progression, but it's irresistible in its catchy. Like most of Warren's work, the song is pretty basic, but as I sit here listening to it over and over again, I have to admit that it was very effective, and almost certainly the best song they ever recorded.
00:02:22 - Tom could have signaled a change in the direction of the band.
00:02:26 - It could have earned them some respectability and made them less than the punchline they became.
00:02:31 - Instead, Cherry Pie became probably his best known song.
00:02:36 - While Uncle Tom's Cabin was a hit for the band, it was overshadowed by the album's title track.
which was essentially a scrap to please the record label.00:02:45 - One, two, you're a secret daddy of the town's cabin
00:02:50 - You're no secret, I just can't tell
00:02:54 - You're no secret daddy of the town's cabin
00:02:57 - The producer of the album tells us
00:03:00 - I can't believe I didn't tell you this story because you always ask me are there any standout moments on the record
00:03:05 - So Genie's brother is a guitar player
00:03:08 - He may be a singer too, I don't know
00:03:10 - But Janie wanted to get him on the record and so I said great and he was out in the room and we were getting sounds and mic'ing him up and stuff like that he started playing this most amazing piece that I had ever heard and so I tracked over my engineer put the machine in record
00:03:28 - I didn't even I had no idea where it was I didn't care I just had to capture this and that became the acoustic intro to Uncle Tom's Cabin. It was so spectacular and part of the plan it wasn't anything it was just him out just playing and I've learned I learned that trick many many years before because a lot of times when people are just out there warming up they play some amazing stuff because they're really loose and there's no red light fever or any recording anxiety people are just playing and that's exactly what happened with this and I was bound and determined to try to get that in some place so there's kind of a hazy kind of a crossfade
00:04:09 - Out of that, into Uncle Tom's cabin, but that was really the only place where I could think of to make it work.
00:04:14 - You know, he's got to play an acoustic rhythm guitar part on some song, and he may have.
00:04:19 - There may be some acoustic stuff that he did, but nothing like that.
00:04:22 - That was just absolute jaw-dropping to me.
00:04:25 - Rock and Roll is a style that remains in time.
00:04:29 - Stories and bands that made it possible in rock classics of all time.
00:05:09 - Just follow the rules, you'll get the story straight and you'll know the time of this universe getting pretty late
00:05:36 - I'm on the side of this limit, but who's she with?
00:05:39 - Well, they see it, got no bottom, see it, take you down ahead
00:05:43 - Over in the bushes and on to the right
00:05:47 - Two men talking in the pale moonlight
00:05:51 - Sins down pretty and deputy heads
00:05:54 - Falling to live might as down to the water's head
00:05:59 - Let no secret down these awful times gather to the end
00:06:06 - Not the one secret that I just can't get
00:06:10 - They didn't see me in time in the dream
00:06:14 - Neither one, neither one that I could see
00:06:18 - Tossed in the bodies then sink on down
00:06:21 - To the bottom of the world where they never be found
00:06:25 - Not the one secret that I just can't get
00:06:30 - No one secret that I just can't tell No one secret that I just can't tell
00:06:37 - No one secret that I just can't tell No one secret that I just can't tell
00:06:44 - No one secret that I just can't tell No one secret that I just can't tell
00:06:48 - No one secret that I just can't tell No one secret that I just can't tell
00:06:52 - No one secret that I just can't tell No one secret that I just can't tell
00:06:58 - Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah,
00:07:28 - I wouldn't make a sound
00:07:30 - Running through the woods back to Fakertime Shack
00:07:33 - And where the full moon shines through the rooftop cracks
00:07:37 - Follow by your time, who are we gonna tell
00:07:41 - The silver bellows in a prison cell
00:07:45 - Keep your mouth shut and act your way
00:07:47 - Gonna do this to all the wise men
00:07:50 - In the business world too long
00:07:53 - I know a secret down in undertones coming out
00:07:57 - I know a secret that I just can't tell
00:08:01 - I know a secret that I just can't tell
00:08:08 - I know a secret that I just can't tell
00:08:15 - Oh, I know a secret that I just can't tell
00:08:20 - No for the bodies, no for the bodies
00:08:24 - In the wishing well
00:08:29 - Oh, yeah
