Episodio 267: Metallica my friend of misery year 1991. English Version.
00:00:00 - More songs, more stories, that beat time, for a style of music that never dies, while classics of all time.
00:00:23 - Greetings from Argentina to everyone.
00:00:26 - I remind you that due to the increase in listeners we are on two new platforms, Spotify and Amazon Music.
00:00:39 - Today I am going to tell you the story of My Friend of Misery, this excellent song from the black album by the American group Metallica, recorded and released between 1990 and 1991.
00:00:56 - With this album the group obtained a new sound and a new music call direction.
00:01:07 - Bob Rock, who had worked with bands like Bon Jovi and Motley Crue, was the one who transformed the group's sound.
00:01:14 - It said, they had reached a level, but they still weren't on mainstream radio, says Rock.
00:01:21 - When they came to me, they were ready to make that leap to the big, big leagues.
00:01:27 - Many people think that I changed bands.
00:01:30 - I did not do it in their heads, they had already changed when I met them.
00:01:35 - It was not a fun and easy record to make, says producer Bob Rock, speaking of Metallica's fifth self-titled studio LP, popularly known as the Black Album.
00:01:46 - Sure, we laughed a bit, but things were tough.
00:01:50 - When we finished, I told the guys that I would never work with them again.
00:01:55 - They felt the same way about me.
00:02:02 - Jason said this was one of the only songs he could write and put all his feeling into
00:02:07 - Metallica.
00:02:10 - About the song this says.
00:02:11 - My main contribution to the black album was a song called My Friend of Misery.
00:02:17 - My second full writing credit with Metallica.
second actual album that I played on with the talent after I'd been in for I guess five years and this is the way it was I'll play it the way it was originally written on the demo tape from my studio that I gave to Lars and00:02:34 - James not actually the way that ended up on the thing but the way I
00:02:37 - I originally gave it to them.
00:03:37 - I was hoping it was going to end up being the instrumental song from the black album.
00:03:57 - I thought we were going to follow suit and keep having an instrumental song, but we didn't.
00:04:02 - That's how it worked out.
00:04:04 - That was something that I came up with, you know, by myself on my old four track machine and I guess when we were just working on tapes, you know, the whole idea was to listen to as much music as possible of different bands and different styles and things and take it in through your funnel, you know, and through your filter and then whatever happens to come out here, you know, if you listen to more stuff and it's going to come out more colorful.
00:04:28 - And that was kind of the idea at that time.
00:04:30 - I wasn't as practiced of a listener as I am now,
00:04:34 - I wasn't as well versed, I guess, in different styles of music and things like that, but I still did rather take in soul music and funk music and all those kind of things along with Black Sabbath and Hendrix in order to come up with our stuff.
00:04:47 - It's always good to feed yourself the things that you grew up on, your original teachers, be refreshed by it.
00:04:53 - So you remember where your core of your style came from.
00:04:56 - And then to sprinkle it, refresh it with, you know, new, you know, whatever, trip hop bands or even hip hop music or whatever happens to me, the
00:05:07 - Disgenerations music happening right now or something like that. New fresh players, young players. It's always good for your, you know, for anybody
00:05:14 - So there you go. That's what we try to do still to this day
00:05:19 - Cool
00:05:21 - Glassings, songs, all the time
00:05:28 - I don't know what you're talking about, I don't know what you're talking about, I don't know what you're talking about, I don't know what you're talking about.
00:06:28 - You get just through them screaming
00:06:33 - Bearing no one but listening to you
00:06:37 - They say the empty can rattles the most
00:06:41 - The sound of your own voice must soothe you
00:06:45 - Hearing only what you wanna hear
00:06:49 - Knowing only what you learn
00:06:52 - You, your smothered tragedy
00:06:57 - And you're out to save the world
00:07:04 - Misery, you insist that the weight of the world
00:07:10 - Should be on your shoulder
00:07:12 - Misery, that's the story lost in what you see
00:07:18 - My friend of misery
00:07:27 - You're still stood there screaming No one caring about these words you tell
00:07:49 - My friend up for your voice is gone One man's phone is another's hell
00:07:56 - These times are safe to try made of souls
00:08:01 - Something's wrong with all you see
00:08:04 - You, you'll take it on all yourself
00:08:09 - Remember, misery runs company
00:08:16 - Misery, you insist that the weight of the world
00:08:21 - You should be on this shoulder
00:08:24 - Misery
00:08:26 - This one's for the life
00:08:28 - What you see
00:08:30 - My friend, a misery
00:08:35 - My friend, a misery
00:09:21 - I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry
