00:02:20 - The best I think since Rust in Peace.

00:02:27 - Poisonous Shandos is one of the singles from this album.

00:02:30 - The lyrics of this song were inspired by Sam Hewon's performance in the Outlander series.

00:02:36 - This epic tale, an adaptation of Diana Gabaldon's famous fantasy romance novels, tells the story of two lovers who cross paths in time.

00:02:45 - This romantic odyssey earned three Golden Globe nominations and a Critics' Choice Award.

00:02:55 - This six-minute cut features a piano performance by new Megadeth guitarist Kiko Lerero of Brazilian progressive metal group Angra.

00:03:08 - Big Man Dave Mustaine described the song to Rolling Stone as

00:03:11 - A really haunting piece, and added that the part that Kiko played, it's very Chopin Megadeth, if that makes sense.

00:03:22 - It does have some classical music touches.

00:03:29 - Nashville arranger Ron Huff did the orchestration.

00:03:33 - He is the father of former Megadeth producer Dan Huff.

00:03:39 - Virtuous Jordanian singer Farah Suraj is the female vocalist.

00:03:43 - Mastame told Radio.com,

00:03:45 - She's actually the UN ambassador for Jordanian music.

00:03:49 - We discovered her through our management, she's an amazing talent.

00:03:53 - This is actually a bit vulgar for her.

00:03:55 - Her singing is from another world.

00:04:02 - The song is disturbing, it begins with Mustaine's threatening voice, with a touch similar to sweating bullets, with a devastating bass, especially from his new drummer, Chris Shadler.

00:04:15 - Great solo from Kiko, who proves that his choice was not wrong.

00:04:20 - The group leader tells us.

00:04:22 - Poison Shadows was a song that actually was the last musical song that I wrote on this record, and the lyric was something that was coming together as we went.

00:04:34 - But I didn't have a song to put the lyrics to yet, and a lot of the song is lyrically about soul searching for me and things in my past, things I needed to do some reconciliation with, making amends, so to speak, and going back and writing the wrongs I had done.

00:04:55 - And that was kind of something that was kind of in the forefront of my mind while I was writing it, but it wasn't the dominating the fact of the song and the topic that I wanted to follow.

00:05:06 - It was more along the lines of a lot of the really dark series on TV right now.

00:05:12 - My wife and daughter and I, when we first moved out to Tennessee, we started binge watching a lot of TV programs like The Black List and Vikings and Ray Donovan and stuff like that and Outlander is another one and there's some really interesting scenes and a lot of those shows where I took the feeling of some of these really heavy scenes and I thought the way that makes me feel watching that, can I translate that into music so that

00:05:42 - I can capture my feelings, my thoughts, but that color if you understand what I mean.

00:05:48 - And when the song started, oddly enough, the song Interstate Love Song, the beginning of

00:05:56 - Poisonous Shadows, I had always called that lick, STP, because I have these little identifiers for my wrist.

00:06:02 - I've got a folder that has 200 different songs in it.

00:06:06 - When we started the record, I have no idea where it's at right now because we would grab little pieces.

00:06:10 - But that's how I identified that.

00:06:11 - In the very beginning part where the acoustic and the sitara playing together, that was where it started. So it's interesting how it started from something that was almost alternative in the acoustic performance and then it got darker and darker and darker. The orchestration in there was something that I had in my mind's eye and I had a guy named Charlie Judge who's a big arranger out in Nashville do the overdubs for that. And when that showed up when we were nearing the end of the session for that particular song it was a great feeling because you know sometimes when you embellish on a song it's just like salt too much ruins it and we had had another guy we were talking to in the beginning and he just didn't get it and when Charlie's stuff came in it's like that's it perfect so that's one of my favorite I would have to say it is my favorite song on the record for a lot of different reasons.

00:07:15 - There's other songs on there that resonate with me depending on how I feel during the day.

00:07:20 - If I'm feeling snotty, you know, I want to hear something that's a little more aggressive, but that would probably be the one I come back to all the time is my number one favorite song.

00:07:57 - I'll be right back

00:07:59 - I'll be back
