00:01:48 - The Dare of Venge is a good way, in the rock podcast.

00:02:18 - After the average studio album point of entry, and with few sales, Judas Priest was preparing to record an album that would lead him to become one of the biggest heavy metal bands in the world.

00:02:41 - The album was again produced with Tom Allam who got them into the US music market.

00:02:46 - It wasn't a record that we wrote quickly," said Glenn Tipton.

"'We took our time on it and put in a lot of hours to make sure we got the songs the way we wanted them.

00:02:57 - And in the end I think we got it right.

00:03:00 - It just has a great attitude, and it was definitely a landmark album for Priest."

00:03:09 - Screaming for Vengeance is a Thrash Metal Maker song.

00:03:16 - Halford showed his skill with a variety of screams, each one clear, powerful and precisely controlled.

00:03:22 - Although many metal vocalists can blurt out an occasional yell to punctuate a song's climax, Halford was and is the master at making his high-pitched howls an integral part of his singing, enhancing the melody throughout the song.

00:03:37 - Tipton and Downing were also at the top of their game, first attacking the listener with aggressive riffs to compliment Halford's vocals, then leaping into the spotlight, lyrics are about as a person is unfairly attacked while you are down.

00:03:55 - You get up and go to take revenge on the people who screwed you over.

00:03:59 - The world is a captive and messy place.

00:04:05 - We are screaming for vengeance the world is a manacle place.

00:04:10 - Screaming evil back, screaming through the gates of hell and crying out for revenge, is the best kind of medicine to apply.

00:04:21 - Accounts of the time say that in a busy sound, where the album was recorded, there was a lot of alcohol and drugs of all kinds.

00:04:29 - And a general atmosphere of lack of control 24 hours a day that would crystallize in an episode as unfortunate as it is hilarious.

00:04:37 - A Certain Day K.K.

00:04:39 - Glenn was hit by a taxi, and the other guitarist in the band, Glenn Tipton, was in charge of administering first aid to his partner.

00:04:47 - Bad decision.

00:04:49 - Because as Halford himself recalled, Glenn was in the middle of an acid trip, so he plunged his hands into boiling water while trying to clean the wounds.

00:04:59 - He burned his hands, obviously, and KK was wrapped in so many bandages that he looked like an Egyptian mummy and couldn't walk for a week.

00:05:10 - These episodes made him rethink the band that if they did not stop with the excesses they would end very badly.

00:05:20 - Since Halford's voice is brilliant in this song, it's convenient to listen to producer

00:05:24 - Tom Allam, who tells us.

00:05:37 - I started working with Priest in 1979.

00:05:41 - I don't know how many vocal takes I've done with him, but he never sang out of tune.

00:05:47 - And it is his range, a colossal range, and it's not Falsetto.

00:05:52 - It's full voice.

00:05:53 - Oh, shot it inside, too far, that is so half of it.

00:06:03 - Right there, that little break in the voice, it just comes so naturally to him.

00:06:07 - When the night comes out.

00:06:11 - Yeah, right.

00:06:13 - I did the melody with it as well.

00:06:15 - When the night comes down

00:06:19 - Yes, we were working in Starling Studios, which was Ringo Starr's house, and when you stood on the terrace at the back of the house, you looked out over this sea of magnificent trees.

00:06:32 - I used to like to say to Rob, you stand on the terrace and you've got to imagine there's 130,000 Judas Priest fans.

00:06:39 - And there.

00:06:40 - There was never a moment when I'd have to say, you know, put some more feeling into it or something, it wasn't necessary, it was there.
