00:00:25 - Glenn Raymond Tipton was born in Black Earth, a region near Birmingham,

00:00:29 - Birmingham, on October 25, 1947. His parents were named Olive and Doug Tipton. He studied at Hill Primary School. He became interested in music when his older brother Gary started playing in a local band called Atlantics. In his childhood, music occupied an important place in his life. His mother gave him piano lessons as a child. But who helped him was his brother Gary who taught him to play acoustic guitar. His first guitar was offender Stratocaster, which, to his chagrin, was stolen from him on the first show he offered as a guitarist. Rock and roll music, in my team's really, but you know in my early days because I'm getting on a bit. It was a lot of soul music and you know initially I was into blues, I got into blues and rhythm blues and then it just progressed from there. There were a lot of clubs around about that time that you could go and see some great acts with great songs, people that were just expressing themselves moving away from blues, progressing and there was lots of little clubs particularly in Birmingham and I think you know Birmingham is renowned for having a lot of important musicians and very successful musicians and I think that's a lot to do with it. I think there was a quite a large outlet there for bands to go and play. I remember seeing the cream. I didn't really know they were at the time, you know.

00:01:52 - And there's lots of bands, Early Fleet, Wood Mac, Mud The Hoop or Small Clubs. Small venues is great to see them really close up.

00:02:02 - His first band was Shave M. Dry, which would change its name to the Flying Hat band. With this band he even recorded an album for Atlantic Records, but they did not have the proper support of the critics because they were considered a clone group of the Black Sabbath.

00:03:27 - During the early days with Judas Priest, he had to do a lot of temporary jobs because they couldn't make a living from music.

00:03:34 - The priests were about to separate and leave music, because they had numerous problems with the Gull Records label, which recorded the two albums. Later, they signed for Columbia

00:03:45 - Records to record Sin After Sin, which featured Roger Glover as producer, bassist for Deep

00:03:50 - Purple, with whom he had endless run in. That album was the boom of the band, had considerable success managing to tour around the world, especially in Japan.

00:11:07 - From there, the Judas priests began to live the Golden Stage, Stain Class, Killing Machine, and the extraordinary British Steel, Defenders of the Faith, the decade of the 70s and 80s, where they obtained albums of platinum and gold, being one of the fundamental groups in rock and heavy metal.

00:11:47 - They would abandon the influences of psychedelic rock and blues very fashionable at the time, and in 1980 to create heavy metal, they are one of the pioneers and Glenn became famous with his partner KK Downing, the twin guitars, those solos where they alternate between the two, with great precision and melody.

00:12:06 - Judas Priest always had the same way of composing songs.

00:12:10 - K, K, Len and Halford, are the songwriters, once KK left the band, Faulkner is a songwriter.

00:12:18 - In other words, the composition always falls between the guitarists and the singer, there was no better guitar companion for Tipton than KK Downing.

00:12:27 - This duo performed the best metal songs of all time.

00:12:30 - Tipton is also influenced by the classical music that his mother taught him, in his birthplace.

00:12:36 - Unlike Downing, Tipton is a much more melodic guitarist, he had a very fine ear, he combined his riffs with classic picks, but very effective.

00:12:46 - In the solos he pulls the melody and uses scales in a lower tone than his old Judas

00:12:50 - Priest partner, in those solos they shared, the melodic part usually falls on Tipton.

00:12:56 - He pulls many arpeggios and tremolo in the solo composition.

00:13:01 - As Downing played the speed metal, the speed, he gave the Judas Priest solos pause and harmony.

00:13:07 - In terms of riff construction, he always used martial amps to give it a more aggressive and garish tone, giving it a very aggressive live sound.

00:13:16 - In the 1980s, he experimented with synthesizers for the turbo album, and again experimented with keyboard and synthesizer on his two solo albums.

00:13:26 - It lends solos on some songs like Painkiller, Bloodstone, Beyond the Realm of Death are exceptional, but the only one that remains for the story is that of the song I Electric from the album Screaming for Vengeance.

00:19:05 - Glenn tells us how he started playing guitar. It was indirectly through my brother Gary.

00:19:15 - He had a guitar in his room, so when he went out I would go in, steal his guitar and play it. Of course, I thought they would never discover me. But every time he picked up that guitar, the tuning would inevitably change, and my brother, yes, he noticed. Currently,

00:19:32 - He is off stage, as he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease a few years ago, although he is still part of Judas Priest, mainly in songwriting.

00:19:40 - I think because both me and Ken there's no rules.

00:19:43 - We love heavy metal but we also love melody and we always believed that you can do whatever you want to do.

00:19:49 - You shouldn't be restricted by the so-called code of heavy metal.

00:19:53 - You can do what you want and I think that gave the band a lot of inner strength really.
